In the future, we´ll no doubt see technology outsmarting humans at a speed that will be phenomenal. No doubt it will affect games. But immersion will maybe affect humans in their real lifes way more.
A man who specialises in predicting the future in terms of technology is Ray Kurzweil. He is the new head of the Google university. He is the man who talks a lot about ´The Singularity´, the moment that humans become cyborgs because of their artificial brains (like in iRobot).
Ray Kurzweil believes that the Singularity will arrive in 2045. He has predicted other events like the fall of the Soviet Union, the rise of the www and is quite good.
But will he be right this time? He is saying that to be able to keep up with artificial intelligence, humans would have to get their brains augmented with technology, which would end our humanity.
I think he is exaggerating, because governments will not allow the end of humanity to happen. Human cloning is already possible but it is strictly forbidden. Stem cell research is only allowed in very limited cases and has also been possible for a long while.
But, once again, it´s worth keeping a check on these things.
BTW Ray Kurzweil has just made a documentary. Check out the trailer:
Here is an interview with the maker of the documentary:
